No heartbeat at dating scan

01 Feb

I miss you so much x Hello , I am so sorry to hear what you are going through.

Sadly this does happen and it happened to me and a few other people on here that I know. so was scanned one week later at 8.5weeks when there was a heartbeat.

I started receiving emails from women wondering if they might be misdiagnosed and then finding out that they were! Not only were many of these women eight or nine weeks (with some being even further along than that! I went on an email writing frenzy sharing what I had learned with researchers all over the world. Some very kindly told me I was mistaken: A tipped uterus wouldn't make a difference because first trimester ultrasounds were the most accurate. I'm reading this page from the American Pregnancy Association and THERE IT IS.

I did have a couple of researchers who first told me there was no link and then later emailed to say something along the lines of, "Y'know, after thinking about it, I did have this one case..." or "My colleague just had this one case where he really believed it was a miscarriage." Nobody really bought into the tilted uterus thing though.

The doctor said that I was 6 weeks and 1 day according to measurements. The size of the baby has grown since last week's ultrasound. I then went on Friday due to essesive stress to get a second opinion. At 6 weeks 1 or 2 days I had abdomincal u/s which showed gestational sac (no fetal pole, yolk sac or heartbeat)...naturally a bit worried after reading different info on many posts about the same thing.

My Inky Dinky is my dear angel - may you rest in peace darling.

I’m going to break them down and explain their individual purposes and what you will leave knowing after having one.

Before describing the sonograms, let’s talk about the difference between a sonogram and an ultrasound.

Healthy, low-risk pregnant women are recommended to only receive a sonogram at 20 weeks, but there are times when other scans are needed to check on baby.

There are six common sonograms performed throughout pregnancies, and one or more may be recommended to you.
